FiveThirtyEight has published an article analyzing how much of an impact The Matrix 3 had on its popularity in 2017.
The article analyzed data from 4,898,072 users and the top five ringer movies of 2017.
Based on that data, the article concludes that the movie is “the most popular ringer film of all time.”
The article also finds that, based on the top-grossing films of 2016, The Matrix was the top ringer for six weeks in a row in the US.
The ringer also topped the chart in Canada, with a year-over-year rise of 0.4%.
In the UK, the top 10 ringer films of 2017 ranked #1 for six months.
Ringer movies were also among the top 20 films of 2018, with the top films ranked #9, #8, #7, #6, #5, #4, #3, and #2.
In Australia, the roster ranked #10 in 2017, followed by #8 in 2018, #1 in 2019, and finally #5 in 2020.
FiveThirtyeight’s analysts also found that The Matrix 2 was the most popular movie of all-time in 2018.
